in Dream, Kage ponders the Twilight Star, the Twilight Star, the Twilight Star. The very names sounds ripe for novels with light-fluff occult overtones or perhaps a new Indiana Jones movie, but sometimes reality is just that camped up. Chances are - she can hazard a guess - that it's a nickname, a pithy phrase that humans contrive as old knowledge fades away, as old memories wane. Who out there, who among us, who, who, who could possibly know?
...it bombards her.
when moons shift and turn they show one face, yes? one face, the light side, yes. starts give off light, only light, in one direction ever and always, one new sun. fixed. what of the light from the other side? what of the other side? it will pass soon, the Red Star, and it's Shadow must be caught, be caught, yes. Best to fill the chalice, best to fill it up in Shadow. A date! A date! There has to be a date! July 4th. Independence Day. How fitting. How right. We'll need it then. He has it now.
-Footwork around the Gentleman's Club where the DOOM transpired, alas, yield no results. It's just a place, Kage, just a place where people come and go, come and go. It's hard to catch a scent, catch a trail. Like people have gone to ground, as groups are want to do when the hour draws near and there is work to be done. Busy, busy, busy bees. Can you hear them humming?
-Research on the Twilight Star. Rumours. Tidbits of information. It is mentioned briefly, here, she finds - or someone tells her - in an obscure passage of the history of one Crusade or another. דמדומי הכוכב, in Hebrew, where a rebellious group of Semitics supposedly planned to yield the power of some arcane, occult item of great power to beat back the Islamic and Christian forces that assailed the Holiest City, that barred them from even the meanest entry. La Estrella Crepúsculo, in one journal of a Spanish conquistador [or just the young cabin boy who had the ill fortune to join the journey] or La Siempre Sedienta, The Ever Thirsting, a relic of the indigenous people of Central America to which the native priests often many a blood sacrifice. Fast forward then, centuries forward, and it is mentioned again along with infamous names and connotations. General Karl Haushofer, a university professor and director of the Munich Institute of Geopolitics, often visited Hitler during his imprisonment - during which he dictated the vile work, Mein Kampf. Haushofer was also a student of the Russian magician and metaphysician Gregor Ivanovich Gurdyev (George Gurdjieff).Among the varied occult interests of the Third Reich, Haushofer showed a particular interest in locating the Danaergeschenk Sēula, the Poisoned Chalice of Souls. Speculations say he may have acquired it and given it to his son; who was rumored to have escaped to South America following the end of the War. In the 1960's an oil tycoon by the name of Emile VanBuren made boasts of having the obscure but - in certain circles - infamously mysterious item. He refused to show any proof however. Just recently his son, Algernon VanBuren - a notorious recluse - passed away, dividing his estate among family and - it was claimed by one some circles of antiquarians - one trusted friend who dealt in the acquisition, verification and auctioning of such antiquities.
There the trail ends.
